Every Gardener Knows...

Deb Edwards, Owner of Perennial Gardens to Go... that a successful perennial garden begins when the shovel slices through the soil to create a hole big enough for the first plant. Others will say it begins with a plan, a design, an idea. That's also correct. But the garden doesn't begin to take root until the shovel moves the soil aside and the plant goes into the ground.

That is how Perennial Gardens to Go began. With the first perennial in the ground. The plants were chosen, design plans were drawn, and space was created for the first twelve formal landscape gardens. And then we began planting the perennials. You should stop by to see how the gardens and rows of perennials, peonies, irises and day lilies have grown!

Landscaping with Perennials

Our primary business is landscaping. We provide a unique landscape design service with perennial flowers, bushes and small ornamental trees including Japanese Maples, Ornamental Mulberry, Weeping Cherry and Hydrangea.

What makes Perennial Gardens to Go different from other landscapers is that we plant what we grow. That is why we can guarantee the quality of the plant and the root stock because your garden will be planted with lush and mature plants from our own inventory of perennials grown on our flower farm. Even though we like to say we "garden by numbers" we know that each distinctive garden we create for our clients is made beautiful and a colorful work of art because of the variety of perennials available.

An additional benefit for you of working with a Certified Master Gardener is our confidence in planting only what what will grow in your soil, and knowing how the garden should be designed to blend in and yet stand out on the natural terrain of the land. All of our gardens are designed to enhance the encompassing home and building structures.

Your perennial gardens can be designed by Perennial Gardens to Go, or we can work with your design ideas and your plant preferences to place the perfect garden in position for you to enjoy the three seasons of garden beauty in Michigan.

What Are You Trying to Do?

Perennial gardens are annually cost-effective and provide many solutions to the landscaping needs of your property. Gardens provide tremendous "curb-appeal" value to the appearance of your home. It doesn't matter if you are trying to stop soil erosion, create a show garden, an English Country Garden or a Stone Cottage Garden, every aspect of your property is enhanced with a correctly-placed and populated perennial garden. We have plants and gardens available for every budget, and also offer annual maintenance plans. Be sure to ask about them.

Some Flowers Like Full Sun
Some Flowers Do Better in the Shade

June is a special month to enjoy peonies and it is worth a trip to our flower farm just to see the fresh peonies. We have rows and rows of peony bushes. At Perennial Gardens to Go we grow over 105 varieties of peonies. Stop by and see the beautiful display in June and take home a bouquet of some fresh cut peonies. Cut one from every bush.

In addition to the many varieties of peonies, we also specialize in Irises and Day Lilies. The gardens are also full of lush and huge hosta plants, delphinium, salvia, yellow and pink yarrow, lavender, malva, daisies, cleome, foxglove, columbine, coral-bells, lupine, canterbury bells (campanula), monarda, scabiosa, and veronica.

There are also rows of roses, including carpet roses and over fifteen varieties of ornamental grasses native to Michigan and eight different types of hostas.

Our Exclusive Plant by Number Gardens

Sometimes you need to see something to get a feel for how it looks and fits. That was one of the goals with our pre-planted gardens. It was our hope that you could see how many different types of plants could be planted together to take advantage of all types of soil. Our exclusive "plant by number gardens" include:

Two different types of "3 Seasons" Gardens
    A Sand Garden
    An Ornamental Grass Garden
    A Peony Garden
    The Moonlight Garden
    The Shade Garden
    A Red Garden
    A Bog Garden
    Natural Plants of Michigan
Plants for Clay and Heavy Soil
    A Peony Sand Garden

An Abundance of Potted Perennials

As you can probably tell by the pictures on this site we have an abundance of potted perennials. It is a side benefit to growing our own plants for the landscaping aspect of Perennial Gardens to Go.

All of the potted perennials are for sale. You can stop by Perennial Gardens to Go, or we are happy to ship to you "bare root" perennials. Be sure to send us your "Flower Want List" so that in the spring we can set aside potted perennials for you which have been hardened off over the winter.

We're Also A Cut Flower Farm with Horses

Perennial Gardens to Go has also become a popular must-visit cut flower farm destination for many tourists and local residents. The gardens are on the north east corner of an eighty-acre farm (not all flowers, yet!). Most of the land is used to grow hay, and we also have a registered quarter horse and three other horses in the barn, plus a new foal born in early July - yes, very adorable!

Pack a lunch and come and spend an afternoon in the Gardens with us. Plan the additions you want to make to your garden and choose from many proven and mature potted perennials to take home to your own garden, and while you are here take some time to cut a fresh bouquet of flowers for your dining room table or to take to a special friend or family member. They will be glad you did!
