The Store Behind the "Pink Bench"

Since opening The Pennington Collection in April 2006 the store has become known as many different things. To some we are known as the "mini North Country Gardens," to others we have become known as the "place to buy cards" and the children know The Pennington Collection as the store where they can always find an affordable gift to fit their "under $10" budget.

Most importantly we are known as the store which has embraced the Northport community as our own with our dedication to being the store in their village which has something for everybody.

We hope that when you come around the corner to Mill Street that you will see our famous pink bench out front and will stop in to say hello, see what is new, and to take a few minutes for yourself and enjoy the small town hospitality of the "Pink Bench" out front.

A Fun Store Full of Merchandising Surprises

When you walk into The Pennington Collection the first thing you will notice is color, and a balanced variety of unique and interesting items competing for your attention. Many customers have told us of their first shopping experience in The Pennington Collection, about wanting to rush to the back of the store to quickly see everything in the store. Luckily when they do that they find our huge selection of greeting cards and other paper products. We carry greeting cards for every special occasion for all age groups from many different card companies. A favorite which always draws the oohs and aahs are the fold-out pop-up cards - they are miniature engineering works of art which are a gift in themselves with their intricate designs and seasonal themes. Adults and children alike love to open and close them just to watch the card come to life!

Patience Brewster has always been a favorite with our customers. We carry the full line for Patience Brewster greeting cards and also the Patience Brewster figurines from D56.

We also have many blank greeting cards with various themes for those who want to write their own messages, plus many note cards in different weights of paper and designs which are boxed and also available in handy note card portfolios which are also perfect gifts. For those who like to write we have blank journals and boxed stationery for personal use or to give as a gift to those who honor the tradition of letter writing.

Some of my fondest childhood memories of summers in Leelanau County were shopping days. We've stocked our children's department to create a fun experience for our younger customers. They will find children's books, stuffed animals, games, educational toys, dolls, doll houses, doll clothes, trucks, cars, bubbles, sports equipment, sidewalk chalk and enough items to encourage their playtime dress up imagination so they can transport themselves to their own special childhood places. One of our most popular items with our adult customers are the Victorian pop-up dollhouses which really delight the imagination of all ages.

Leelanau County's Own M-22 Products

One of the hottest and best selling items year round in The Pennington Collection is a new line of t-shirts, coffee mugs and tall beverage glasses custom imprinted with the image of the M-22 state highway sign on them. M-22 is the state highway which encircles Leelanau County. It is no small wonder that the M-22 product line is so popular with residents and visitors because the scenic drive is so beautiful and you do see so many unique and different parts of the Leelanau Peninsula while on the highway.

A popular line which will always be a hit with our customers because M-22 circles our county, and circles our hearts too! The Pennington Collection carries the full line of M-22 products and in the winter months we are the only open store in Leelanau County with the full M-22 product mix.
