No, he goes back to the huddle and focuses on the next play, the one attached to his revenue stream.

Traveling Nurses: The pay and the benefits

What to consider when thinking about becoming a traveling nurse

Traveling Nurses: The pay and the benefits There are a lot of benefits to becoming a traveling nurse not to mention top pay in a very high demanding field. There is a huge demand in the nursing profession and travel nurses are placed in areas around the country to fill those vacancies.

A quick overview of all the benefits you may find when becoming a travel nurse is listed below. These benefits are just a few of the many rewarding benefits you will experience.

Travel:
As a traveling nurse you are reimbursed for all your travel expenses from moving to and from each assignment. Some agencies cover gas mileage while some will offer up to 650 for air travel expense. Most agencies have worked it in a way that your travel expensive is tax free.

Housing:
While on assignment your housing is paid for including your basic utilities. Private housing usually includes a one bedroom apartment close to your assignment that is full furnished. If your needs are greater then a 1 bedroom then you may have to pay a small portion towards your special housing needs. You can also choose to live in your own accommodations that you find yourself and will be given a housing allowance based on area of assignment. Some of the communities that travel nurses are placed in include gyms, pools, spas and clubhouses. You can even travel with your spouse, children or pets. Depending on your needs your agency will help you obtain the housing that you need to suit your lifestyle.

Retirement Plans:
Most agencies will offer you some kind of retirement plan, a 401K or something of that nature. You will want to see if the agency you work matches your contributions.

Medical, Dental and Eye Insurance:
Most of the top agencies will offer you medical, dental and eye insurance at no cost to you. Your dependent coverage will depend on the company and is usually available for a minimal fee. You are usually offered a choice of plans that you can choose from that will suit your lifestyle and needs.

Top Rate Pays:
As a traveling nurse you will be opened up to a higher pay level then if you where a non-travel nurse. As a traveling nurse you can obtain hourly pay up to $60.00 per hour depending on the assignment and the location of the assignment.

Sign on Bonuses:
Depending on the type of assignment available and the demand for the position to be filled some facilities will offer a sign on bonus. A sign on bonus can range anywhere from a few hundred dollars to a couple thousand dollars easy. Some agencies will even offer you a sign on bonus to sign on with their agencies. As the needs in the nursing field grow more agencies are looking to fill positions.

Completion Bonus:
Although not as common as the sign on bonuses some agencies will offer a completion bonus for when you complete an assignment.

Referral Bonus:
Some agencies also offer their employees a referral bonus when they have someone sign up with the agency and say that their employee referred them to the agency. Sign on bonuses can range from a hundred to a thousand dollars. Some agencies have even offered more for their referral bonuses.

The Lock Companies Behind Locksmiths

Interesting Locksmith History

Be it directly or indirectly, locksmiths deal with all sorts of companies in their line of work. Some big names for these companies are: Yale, Master Lock, Kwikset, Medeco, Schlage, Sentry, Olympus, Weiser, and American Lock USA.

Yale created and patented the first compact cylinder pin lock in 1845. They're well-known as lock manufacturers and distributors. But they are only one of many who have made an important name for themselves. All locksmiths are acquainted with the Yale brand as well as the ones that follow.

Weiser Locks offer fashionable doorwear. Their locks have been featured in films and used in the homes of Hollywood stars. They made a touchpad electronic deadbolt which allows temporary access for service personnel and babysitters. Locksmiths buy kits to rekey Weiser Locks when it is necessary.

Locks are used in many areas of our lives. We use them for bicycle locks, gun cabinets, safes, mailboxes, patio doors, furniture, lockers, and tool sheds. There is a high probability that there is something in every area of a home that has a lock of some type on it.

Locksmiths have to learn the different tricks to the many brands as well as some of their background. The Master Lock brand are most likely used in some way in every household in America. Master Locks are known well by locksmiths. They are used in homes, businesses, schools, and many industries.

Kwikset manufactures residential door locks and door hardware. Deadbolts, door knobs, keyless entry locks, door levers, handlesets, and pocket door hardware are their specialties. Any locksmith in America can operate Kwikset brand products because they're popular. Keyless entry presented a learning experience for locksmiths worldwide.

Sentry locks are well known locks, too. Their line of safes is widely used and are great products for protecting valuables. The products are especially valuable in cases where fire, burglary, or natural disaster has caused keys to be lost, forgotten, or damaged.

Because burglars often use forced entry to steal from residences, a locksmith must know how to repair the damage done. This can include replacing the hardware that was damaged. If a locksmith doesn't sell the brand the customer prefers, they must know where to find the right brand and how to install it or at least know of a reliable or more improved substitute.

Besides working with the brand names in their businesses, locksmiths can also find employment with lock manufacturing companies. Companies such as Sentry offer excellent benefits and perks to their employees. Some of these include dry cleaning services, on-site fitness centers, pre-paid legal services, and discounted insurance rates.

American Lock manufactures locks for outdoor security and industrial security as well as many different types of padlocks. There are important items that must remain outdoors that often need to be locked for security purposes. Industrial security requires industrial locks.

Besides the regular types of locks that are attached to outdoor equipment, there is also the equipment that has built-in locks. Lawnmowers, power boats, four wheelers, and other items that people invest in and need keys to use. Locksmiths can be called for these items as well, to keep from damaging the ignitions when a key is lost. So, the locksmiths must also be acquainted with the brands of locks used in outdoor equipment.

How to Start Healthy Eating

Take at look at the food in your kitchen!

If you currently do not eat a healthy diet, it can be difficult to start such a plan. However, healthy eating is important for maintaining bodily function and living a disease-free life. If you struggle with healthy eating, then you know that breaking unhealthy habits can be the most difficult part of the process. However, if you truly want to live the best lifestyle possible, it is important to follow tips in order to start eating a more healthy diet.

A good beginning step when you want to start eating more healthily is to rid you home of all foods that do not fall into healthy categories. Keep junk foods and beverages out of your house so that you will not be tempted to snack during the day. If you're worried about getting hungry, keep healthy snacks like carrot sticks, yogurt, fresh fruit, or whole-wheat crackers on hand. If you find that you just cannot bear to toss out the sweets, try keeping something tiny on hand, like chocolate chips. Eating a few of these won't ruin your diet but also will give you that little sugary fix you crave.

Another great step to healthy eating when you are first starting the process is to take a few moments to learn about what foods are the healthiest for you and how they work in the body. Most people understand that fruits, vegetables, and low-fat meats and dairy products are good for you, but few people understand why. The key is learning about nutrients. When you understand how specific nutrients work in the body, you will be more likely to make these healthy choices for your body. Knowledge really is power!

When cleansing yourself to prepare for a new healthy diet, you should also take into consideration your schedule for meals. If you often eat in a rushed hurry at odd times of day, you probably are not getting the best foods possible. Plan ahead! Instead of grabbing a fast food lunch on the go, take a bagged lunch to work, complete with a healthy wrap and some fresh vegetables. Plan ahead for healthy meals in the evening as well by cooking ahead if you are not currently getting healthy dinners and have little time to cook when you get home every night.

Start with baby steps. Even if you only replace one soda a day with a glass of water, you are decreasing your calorie intake. If you eat fast food every day for lunch, try replacing that even half of the time. When you start by taking small steps, it does not seem like you are cutting out all of the foods you love and you can take your time to learn about healthy foods which you can love equally as well.

How to Start Eating Healthy

Healthy Eating at a Restaurant: Is it Possible?

If you and your family love to eat at restaurants, you may think that this lifestyle is not good for a healthy diet. In many cases, you would be correct. However, you can still enjoy restaurants occasionally and maintain your healthy diet. It's all about making good food choices, which starts with learning about the nutrition you need to stay happy, physically healthy, mentally stable, and active.

When you pick up the menu, start by skipping over the drink section. Although you may be tempted to enjoy a beer or mixed beverage with your dinner, these usually have many empty calories, which is not good for your body. The exception to this rule when it comes to alcohol is wine, especially red wine, which can be fine if you have a single glass and can actually help prevent heart disease for some patients.

Also skip over the appetizer menu, unless it's a side salad. Restaurant appetizers are usually high-fat foods not meant to fill you up and can in fact make you crave even more high fat foods. Examples of these are mozzarella sticks, potato skins, and wings. Instead, simply focus on your main course or, if you must indulge, share a single serving with the entire table of people.

When choosing your main dish, it is of course important that you look at the ingredients of the dish. Anything with cream sauces or high-fat meats should be avoided, and pass up the potatoes or onion rings. Instead order side dishes like vegetables or ask for just the main course when possible.

Remember too that portion size is everything. Order off of the lunch menu whenever you can, and ask for a doggie bag right away. Split your meal in half from the start so that you are not tempted to eat the entire thing, which is usually enough for two or three portions.

At the end of your meal, skip over the desert menu, just like you did with the appetizers. Again, you can share a single desert with the entire table if you feel compelled to order something, or split your portion in half. Many fancy desserts have more calories than your entire meal, so keep this in mind before you flag down the waitress to put in an order! Of course, on special occasion, it's alright to cheat a little, but overall healthy eating requires lots of resisting temptation around you.

The Happiest Place on Earth

From Omena Cut Flowers grower Carolyn Faught:

The Monarch's Fragile Journey

Omena Cut Flowers logoToday I noticed that somebody named Melanie wrote in the guest book that I keep in my U-Pick shed. “Forget Disneyland,” she wrote. “This is the happiest place on Earth.”

On Earth? I was stunned. And grateful. Of course, for me, the Upick IS the happiest place on earth. And I needed to be reminded of that, and realized for about the millionth time how easily we take for granted the best parts of our life when things aren’t going so well in other parts of it. This is a lesson it seems that I need to learn over and over.

I have sworn off looking at the falling stock market and reading all the bad news. At least for now. Today I am thinking about a close friend’s husband who was taken to Hospice House on Tuesday and is struggling valiantly to get through this final stage of life. He was diagnosed with kidney cancer in April, and it has been a nightmare for my friend and her family ever since. This is a good and gentle man, a thoughtful intellectual, a loving father, a stellar husband who is being taken from this earth. Life is not fair, this much I know.

I have the day off today as I do not work on Fridays at all, in order to keep up with the farm. It is one of those spectacular fall days on Omena Bay. The blue water is all the more stunning, set off by the emerging fall color backdrop of Omena Point. This is the first Friday since early June without bouquet making and deliveries. To wander from bed to bed, pulling weeds here, clipping back dead stems there, is a luxury. I have no agenda on this day other than to be at school in time to pick up my 9-year-old son, Will.

As I do my work, a monarch comes to rest on the nearby neon pink sweet William to drink the nectar. Neon is a new variety I planted this spring, said to be a true perennial. It is blooming again in a short burst of color after being cut back in June. The monarch slowly opens and closes its wings as it feeds. Uh oh, little fella, I think. You are a long way from where you need to be at this time of the year. How these fragile creatures make their long journey is one of life’s greatest mysteries, and, in my opinion, some kind of annual miracle.

When I see things like the monarch, or the rainbow on my way to school earlier this morning, I wonder, is this it? Did my friend’s husband pass over? Is this some sort of sign? I am a person who looks for signs, explanations. And then I think that perhaps the monarch was not a sign that a wonderful life had ended, but rather a reminder of the fragile journey that we are all on toward that destination.

Bail-Out October 2008 FDIC Insurance Coverage Limit Will Temporarily Increase - New Interim Rules Better Safeguard Trust Account

Dan Penning, the Suttons Bay Attorney with Wright Penning & Beamer has provided this timely and topical "bail-out" information about FDIC Insured Institutions and how it could affect your trust accounts. Read more information on his blog at www.suttonsbaydepot.com.

Wright Penning & Beamer Suttons Bay Lawyers Logo TAKE ADVANTAGE OF NEW INTERIM RULES TO BETTER SAFEGUARD TRUST ACCOUNTS AT FDIC INSURED INSTITUTIONS

(The $100,000 FDIC insurance coverage limit will temporarily increase to $250,000 upon President Bush’s signing of the “bail-out bill” passed in the House October 3, 2008. This increase is effective until December 31, 2009, at which time the insurance coverage will revert back to the $100,000 limit).

The FDIC has adopted an interim rule to simplify and modernize its deposit insurance rules for revocable trust accounts. Your living trust may be modified to take greater advantage of the new FDIC interim rule. Prior to the interim rule being adopted, all revocable trust accounts (both payable-on-death accounts and living trust accounts) were insured up to $100,000 per “qualifying beneficiary.” (A “qualifying beneficiary” was limited to the account owner’s spouse, child, or grandchild, parents, and siblings.) Under the interim rule, coverage is based on the existence of any beneficiary named in the revocable trust, as long as the beneficiary is a natural person, or a charity or other non-profit organization.

FOR ACCOUNTS TOTALING NO MORE THAN $500,000.

For account owners with revocable trust accounts totaling no more than $500,000, coverage will be determined without regard to the beneficial interest of each beneficiary in the trust. This issue typically arises in the context of a living trust that, for example, provides either varying lump-sum payments for designated beneficiaries or different percentage interests in trust assets to certain beneficiaries, or different remainder interests in the assets to the same or other beneficiaries. Under the new rules, a trust account owner with up to five different beneficiaries named in all his or her revocable trust accounts at one FDIC-insured institution will be insured up to $100,000 (temporarily $250,000 until Dec. 31, 2009) per beneficiary.

SPECIAL TREATMENT FOR ACCOUNTS TOTALING MORE THAN $500,000 WITH MORE THAN FIVE BENEFICIARIES.

Revocable trust account owners with more than $500,000 and more than five different beneficiaries named in the trust(s) will be insured for the greater of either: $500,000 or the aggregate amount of all the beneficiaries' interests in the trust(s), limited to $100,000 (temporarily $250,000 until Dec. 31, 2009) per beneficiary.

We recommend that trust account owners first ensure that the institution holding their funds is FDIC insured. We can help you determine the maximum FDIC insurance coverage amount of your trust account as it currently stands and how to better take advantage of the simplified interim rule. First and foremost, depositors should determine whether the institution holding their funds is maintaining solid footing in the financial industry during these uncertain times. Trust account owners may decide to move their funds to a more secure institution if they discover that their current institution is not equipped to handle the current financial predicament.

The Covenant Field
Hot off the Presses!
It was nearly noon Iowa time when we finally crossed the Mississippi River and into the rolling, corn-stubbled hills of America's breadbasket. Michigan's congested midriff was far in the rear view mirror, now only the land Lewis and Clark dubbed, 'the great green sea' tread beneath my wheels.

It was in those weed-covered hills I made a horrible discovery one blustery November afternoon...

When Judge Deborah Noyes was murdered on the steps of a southern Michigan courthouse, journalists Derrick Twitchell and Colleen Beyer plunged headlong into the story.

They discovered that Her Honor was a linchpin in a 30-year-old mystery and a nightmare that would scar the state forever.

With each†luscious detail, with every candied caveat, the two reporters realize their passion for a good story is trumped only by the fire simmering between them.

Chris Zimmerman's much anticipated third novel, The Covenant Field, visits southern Michigan's most-storied landmarks....and lurid past.

The Secret-Keeper
A mystery gleaned from the shores of Hemingway's Walloon Lake . . .

An adventure woven from the love notes of the dearly departed . . .

A deliciously clever tale of revenge, of forgiveness, of letting go . . and of love that refuses to die.

By the time he realized that his wife's killer was in his grasp, it was too late.

By the time he ran for help, they chased him from Hemingway's Walloon Lake to the sultry sands of the Caribbean.

Snubbed by the authorities, scorned by his patients, he turns to the woman of his future with ties to his past.

They all had a secret to tell; they all had a secret to keep.

And he had to discover what it was.

Destined to become of your favorite reads, Chris Zimmerman's second work "The Secret-Keeper" takes you on a rollercoaster ride of suspense.

Intentional Acts

On a grizzly, wind-swept afternoon, three men duck hunted a jagged point off Lake Superior.

One man had a secret, some scars, and a score to settle. Another had revenge on his mind and a lover at home. The last man was dearly hated but a leader in the business world.

Only two men made it to shore. Find out what happened.
